Fall Soccer League
Take your soccer talents to where the game
began for the Pike County YMCA’s Fall Soccer League! The
Y provides the unique ability of combining community
coercion with a wonderful soccer league atmosphere. This
league provides opportunities for children ages 3 all
the way to 14 to play the game of soccer the way it was
meant to be played. Parents, family members and friends
also have the opportunity to get in on the action by
volunteering as a coach, assistant coach, or even
referee!
Divisions: U6, U8, U10, U12, & U14
Spring Soccer League
Use this offseason league to keep your foot
skills tight and your endurance at par during the Pike
County YMCA 4v4 soccer league. For the soccer player who
is just beginning this league will boost confidence on
the soccer field both with and without the ball because
of the massive amount of space. For the advanced player
this league will allow for creative play that can add
other dimensions to a player’s soccer skills set!
Divisions: U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, & Adult
Why
play 4v4?
4v4 is the smallest manifestation of a real
match. In it are all of the elements
necessary for children to experience real
soccer without any confusing duplication. In
a real soccer match children have the option
of passing the ball forwards, square or
backwards. Three children cannot do this
because one of the directions will be
missing. While 3v3 is a valuable tool for
young children and learning technique, it is
limited in its use as a tool for the
positional game.
4v4 also provides the minimum numbers needed
for all of the principles of play. One
player is up top for penetration. Two are
needed for width and one holds back to
supply depth. In 4v4 the responsibilities
are very clear. All tasks are covered and
none are shared which keeps things simple.
4v4 is the optimum number for teaching in
small-sided games. It has all of the
necessary elements without any duplication. |
Summer Youth Camp
The YMCA Youth Soccer Camp provides both
those who have aspirations of learning the game of
soccer and those who wish to push their soccer talents
further an opportunity to do so. Waverly High’s varsity
head coach, Chris Williamson, along with members of the
team, will instruct the camp. Players will get the
chance to learn new aspects of the game of soccer while
also pushing their limits to become a more skilled
player.
For ages entering 3rd through
8th grade.
